Today I’m sharing our Human Body Systems Worksheets with you. This set provides an overview of the Body’s major systems. It also talks about human cells, tissues and organs.
Once a year, we usually learn about one of the human body systems. One year, we went into great detail one year about the Skeletal System. Another year, we studied the digestive system. And recently, we learned about the circulatory system. We usually start off with an overview of the human body systems.
We often start with a fun album called the Body Systems Rock (affiliate link). The kids *love* it!! We borrowed it from the library, but it’s available at Amazon. The first song goes over the body systems in a fun, general way and we used that as a spring-board for talking about all the systems.
One year, I made this matching page of the body systems and we did this page one morning to add to their science notebooks.
We had two books we used a lot for these units: Human Anatomy Coloring Book (affiliate link) has pages you can print out and color in.
And the The Body Book: Easy-to-Make Hands-on Models That Teach (affiliate link) has really neat models that you can make. We did the joints, bones of the body (see our model here), and some other things, but more about those in those other posts. 🙂
If you have kids that are 6-8 years old, you might also want to check out April Chloe Terrazas’s book, Anatomy and Physiology, Part 2 Body Systems. At the moment it has all 5 star ratings over at Amazon! [We loved her book about Cellular Biology as well (that was how the kids learned the function of the organelles!) You can see more about our Cells Unit here.]
When the kids were 7, 9 and 11, we did another unit on Human Body Systems again. We had just done unit on the Study of Cells (see more at this post). It seemed only logical to learn more about the cells of the human body. I made the kids some new notebook pages for this portion of our unit about cells, tissues, organs and the body systems.
The kids spent quite a bit of time on how the human body is organized… from cells to tissues, then organs and finally the human body systems. I go in a lot more detail about these new human body worksheets here: Organization of the Human Body: Cells, Tissues, Organs, Systems .
Now 50+ Page Human Body System Worksheet Packet
We added a few new worksheets to the human body systems packet recently. This time, we focused more on the organs in each body system and their organs. Plus, we also added a page on the integumentary/skin system which is the body’s largest organ. These are included in this packet as well:
The Four Types of Tissue: We recently added some new pages to this packet. My daughter (now in 9th grade) went into a bit more detail about the four types of tissue. You’ll find those on pages 30-42 or so. You might be interested in our Human Body BUNDLE more details below or visit the Human Body Systems BUNDLE page or visit our store.

So back to our overview of the Human Body Systems: I mentioned above that the kids really love the catchy song — “Body System Rocks.” They wrote down some of the lyrics to the song and some of the key organs connected with each body system in the chart below.
immune system — defends our body skeletal system — all your bones excretory system — cleans our body of poisons muscular system — all your muscles endocrine system is in control of the thyroid glands digestive system — mouth and stomach respiratory system — delivers your oxygen nervous system — is your control center circulatory system — is your life pump that keeps your blood flowing
This worksheet is part of the Human Body Systems Worksheet Sets
If the album, Body Systems Rock (affialiate link), is not available at your local library, it is available at Amazon. You can even just download the one song (“Body System Rocks” and/or listen to a preview) for 99 cents. It’s cute and catchy and great for kids ages 4-10.
We also purchased the SmartLab Toys Squishy Human Body (affiliate link). We pulled that out again and the kids had a lot of fun poking and exploring that again! We talked about it in more depth when we delved into our Digestive System Unit.

Each year usually in the spring semester, we focus on the human body.
We often spend a little bit of time reviewing what we learned the previous year and then add to what we learned.
If you have younger kids, you might want to just jump right in with the Skeletal System Unit and/or the Digestive System Unit.
Once my kids were a little older (with my youngest in 2 nd grade and my older two in upper elementary) – we started covering and reviewing Cells (the organelles and their function) each year. I want them to feel comfortable with the names and have a general idea of the “jobs” each of these organelles have. By reviewing it each spring, they’ve gradually come to understand how these work together a little better each year. That will be helpful once they get to high school level biology.
If you have a student who is 8+ you might want to do the units in this order:
Note: Since our family studies one major system each year, sometimes we skim over some of this so we can dive in depth into that particular body system.
