Violence & Scariness

Batman uses mostly his hands and feet to pummel enemies. Occassionally, he will counter an attack by grabbing an object from an enemy, such as a metal pipe, and hit him with it. Batman also uses Batarangs to hurl at foes. Blood is shown on environments, but isn't visible during combat.

Ease of Play

The game employs the FreeFlow combat system, where attacks are handled through two buttons: an attack and counter. Lightning bolts flash above an enemy's head, signalling the opportunity to counter an attack. Prompts appear throughout the game, showing players how to execute specific moves in various scenarios.

Positive Messages

very little

The villains depicted in the game are pretty deranged, showing little to no disregard for the people they hurt. However, players control a hero with strong values. In one scene, for example, Joker gives Batman the opportunity to kill him, which he refuses. Also, instead of killing enemies, Batman renders them unconscious following attacks.

Positive Role Models

very little

Players control Batman, who must restore order to a psychiatric hospital filled with supervillains. Batman never kills an enemy, instead opting to render them unconscious.

A Classic Thriller

I think this is probally the worst in the Arkham Series but its bit bad its one if the best games ever that just sayd how good the rest are to. This is probally the only game in h tho e series i think should be a 11+ because the only bad stuff is just Batman pummeling thugs in a creepy mental Asylum/prison. So this is a great game and i recommend it. My son is 11 and has played all 4 games and he can handle it all, so i say go ahead and get this for 11+

Excellent game

This is the first in the iconic Arkham series and probably the tamest. The violence in this game is limited to Batman fighting thugs with his bare hands, sometimes the thugs will use pipes, knives, tazers and guns to try and kill Batman. There is no blood unless you count the walls which are decorated in barely visible blood. The language honestly isn’t that bad. If your child goes to a public school then they will hear worse everyday. Words include sh*t, ass, damn, hell one or two uses of b*****d and b*tch. At one stage batman has to follow a whisky trail ( and later a tobacco trail ) but no one is shown actually using these substances. As for sex, there is really nothing apart from some female villains wearing revealing clothing. Ok for 11 years and up

What’s It About?

In BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM, the Caped Crusader transports his nemesis, The Joker, to Arkham Asylum, a psychiatric hospital in Gotham City. However, Joker's detainment was part of a grand scheme to unite Gotham's worst criminals, including Bane, Poison Ivy, and Scarecrow, to take over Arkham. Batman must delve into the depths of the hospital to restore order and stop the Joker.

Is It Any Good?

Our review: Parents say (47 ): Kids say (200 ):

Arkham Asylum is perhaps the best game representation of the comic book character. While most games prefer to focus on Batman as a fighter, this game examines the complete persona of the character. Players will see his sharp detective skills, his love of gadgets, and how he remains haunted by the deaths of his parents in an armed robbery.

During any point, players can enter Detective Mode to search for clues, spot hidden enemies, or find weak spots in the environment with which to take advantage. Batman's typical arsenal of gadgets sits at his disposal, including Batarangs, explosive gel, and the Batclaw. Combat feels very simple, yet can become complex when attacks are chained together properly. However, stealth play is where Batman shines. Players can use strategy and the shadows to assess a situation and plan the best method of attack. Developers extend the adventure through Challenge Rooms, a series of combat and stealth tests. Scores and times are later posted on online leaderboards. Arkham Asylum is a must-have for Batman fans, and a game most action fans will enjoy.

Online interaction: Online is limited to leaderboards that players can visit to view their scores and times in the Challenge Rooms.
